Accessing the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding and support for eligible Australians living with permanent and significant disability. If you don't have an NDIS plan yet, this guide explains how to apply — and how to come back to us once your plan is approved.

We can't approve NDIS access ourselves; that's decided by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). What we can do is help you get ready, and support you once you're funded.

Check if the NDIS is right for you

Access generally depends on your age, residency, and having a permanent disability that affects your everyday life. The NDIA publishes the current eligibility rules and an eligibility checklist.

For the most up-to-date criteria, visit the official website at ndis.gov.au or call the NDIA on 1800 800 110.

How to apply

Make an Access Request — you can do this by phoning the NDIA on 1800 800 110, or by completing an Access Request Form.

Gather evidence of your disability from your treating health professionals, such as your GP, specialist, or allied health provider.

Submit your request and supporting documents to the NDIA. They will contact you about the outcome.

A Local Area Coordinator (LAC) can help you apply at no cost if you'd like a hand.

While you wait

Collect recent reports and assessments — good evidence makes a stronger application.

Start thinking about your goals and the day-to-day supports you'd like. This will help when you build your plan.

Keep a note of any questions so you're ready for your planning conversation.

Once your plan is approved

Come back and let us know — we're ready to help you put your plan into action.

We'll walk you through the supports we offer, match them to your goals, and get your services started.

You can return to this page at any time, or contact our team and we'll pick up right where you left off.
